The Truth About Fast Track Reiki Training (Beyond the Noise, Part 1)

Over the years, I’ve taken just about every kind of Reiki class imaginable. Some were deeply transformational. Others felt like what I call “Reiki drive-through” classes. One Level III class I attended lasted only a few hours. I brought a friend with me who had already completed Levels I and II somewhere else. As we walked out, he looked at me and said, “Vickie, what the hell was that all about? I didn’t learn anything, but apparently now I can call myself a Reiki Master.” I had no words.

And honestly, he was right.

The Rise of the "Reiki Drive-Through"

I’ve also worked on clients who told me they were Reiki Masters, but when I mentioned using a certain Reiki symbol during a session, they had no idea what I was talking about. That isn’t me trying to embarrass anyone. It actually made me sad because it showed me how watered down some Reiki training has become.

Moving Beyond the "Blah Blah Blah"

I even had a Reiki student come to me after exploring other ways to learn Reiki. She told me one teacher said all she really needed to learn was how to work on a person physically and to watch her perform a couple of sessions because the rest of the teachings were just “blah blah blah.”

That exact phrase stuck with me.

Because the teachings are not the filler. The teachings are the foundation.

Somewhere along the way, Reiki started getting reduced down to hand placements, quick certifications, and collecting titles. But Reiki was never meant to just be something you perform on another person. At least not in my experience.

What Integrity in Training Actually Looks Like

A good Reiki class teaches more than technique. It teaches self-awareness, energetic responsibility, ethics, discernment, presence, and how to hold space for another human being.

That depth cannot always be taught in a rushed weekend certification or a 4-hour “Master” class.

For me, Reiki became a spiritual practice that changed how I related to myself and others. It was never just about technique.

And that matters.
