How Are Reiki And Massage Different?

Reiki is a form of energy healing that is becoming increasingly popular in holistic healing circles. Many people confuse Reiki with massage therapy, but the two treatments differ.

In this blog post, I will discuss the differences between Reiki and massage therapy and why you may choose to experience one over the other as part of your holistic health and wellness plan.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an alternative healing technique developed in Japan in the early 20th century. It is based on the idea that every living creature is composed of energy. Reiki focuses on balancing a person's energy with the ultimate goal of restoring physical and emotional harmony.

Reiki practitioners work by channeling energy into the client’s body. To do this, they visually scan the client's body from head to foot and use their hands to direct energy to the areas in which healing is needed.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is a form of physical manipulation of the body's soft tissue and muscles. It's used to relax the body and relieve pain in muscles and joints.

Massage therapists use their hands, elbows, fingers, and thumbs to knead, press, and apply pressure to the client’s body. By manipulating the body's soft tissues, massage therapy reduces tension, promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and reduces pain.

The primary difference between Reiki and massage therapy is that Reiki works with energy, while massage therapy focuses on physical manipulation. Massage therapy is intended to relax the body and reduce tension and pain in the muscles and joints, while Reiki focuses on the individual's energy.

Also, massage therapy may involve physical pressure. At the same time, Reiki is generally free of any physical contact (most use light hands-on touch), relying on the practitioner's ability to channel energy into the client's body.

To sum up, Reiki is an energy healing therapy, while massage therapy is a form of physical manipulation. Reiki works with the energy of the individual to restore physical and emotional harmony, while massage therapy reduces physical tension and pain.

Both of these therapies can be an effective part of a holistic lifestyle.
