Continuing Your Reiki Journey Without the Pressure to Teach
I often hear from people who love Reiki and want to keep practicing, but aren’t sure if they want to take the step to becoming a Reiki Master. Maybe you just want to keep working on yourself, your family, or friends, and that’s completely valid. Reiki is not a race or a ladder you have to climb—how you use it is entirely up to you.
A common question I get is about the difference between Reiki 2 energy and symbols, and Master energy. Here’s the breakdown in practical terms.
Reiki 2 Symbols and Energy
Reiki 2 is often called “Practitioner Level.” At this level, you learn symbols that help you:
Send Reiki energy over distance (so you can send healing even when someone isn’t in the room)
Focus energy more directly on physical, emotional, or mental issues
Strengthen your ability to work with Reiki on yourself and others
The energy at this level is still very gentle, supportive, and flowing. You can work on friends, family, or clients if you choose, and you have tools to make your Reiki more intentional and targeted.
When I first took my Level 1 and 2 classes, I never intended to share Reiki with anyone beyond myself and my family. I definitely didn’t even think about teaching. It wasn’t until people started asking me, once I started my healing business, that I realized teaching could be part of my path.
Master Energy
Becoming a Reiki Master opens up a few different doors:
You learn the Master symbols, which are stronger and carry a different resonance
You gain the ability to attune others to Reiki, passing the energy and symbols along
Your Reiki energy may feel more amplified or easier to channel, but it doesn’t automatically make your healing “better”
The biggest shift is that Master energy is about responsibility and teaching. Some people notice a subtle difference in how the energy flows through them, but it’s not necessary to feel fully connected to Reiki or effective in healing.
So, Do You Need to Be a Master?
Not at all. Many people stay at Reiki 2 for years, or for life, enjoying the practice on themselves and loved ones without any pressure to teach or attune. The energy is still powerful, and your practice can continue to grow personally, intuitively, and spiritually.
If you do feel curious about Master energy but aren’t ready to teach or attune others, my 1:1 Reiki Master class is where we go deep. This class is personalized, so we explore the Master symbols, energy flow, and ways to incorporate them into your personal practice. You’ll gain a stronger connection to the Reiki energy and learn how to use it in ways that feel natural to you, without any obligation to teach.
If you love your Reiki journey, keep practicing. Explore the symbols, experiment with distance healing, and trust your intuition. The path you take is yours to shape, and staying at Reiki 2 can be just as meaningful as going Master.
