Clearing Your Space for the New Year

A new year always feels like a deep breath. Not because the date itself fixes anything, but because it gives us a natural pause. A chance to reset, release what is lingering, and invite in something cleaner and lighter. Clearing the energy in your home can be part of that reset.

Space clearing is really about intention. It is letting your space know that you are choosing clarity, peace, and a fresh start.

I like using sound first. Sound moves through the corners and the little quiet pockets where energy can sit. You can drum, clap your hands, use a bell, or a wind chime. I walk around the room and let the sound move everything along. Sometimes I say, out loud, “This space is cleared.” Then I clap my hands. Simple, honest, and effective.

Another tool I use comes from my clairvoyant training. I imagine gold light coming out of my hands and filling the room. I picture it moving across the walls, the floor, the ceiling, and especially the four corners. I see those corners like golden columns grounded into the earth. The visualization itself shifts the energy. Gold carries clarity and strength, and the space responds.

Nature plays a big part in my clearing work. I have a favorite cedar tree in the Red River Gorge. Every time I visit, I check on her. If a branch has fallen, I ask permission and bring it home. Cedar has a grounded, protective feel. It reminds me that the land is part of the home too. You can work with sage to clear and then use Palo Santo to bless and invite in gentler energy. I like using Palo Santo at the end because it brings peace and sweetness to the space. Using these plants with gratitude and respect matters. It is relationship, not a quick fix.

Lighting a candle is another quiet but powerful way to clear and bless. Set the candle safely, take a breath, and intend that the flame supports clearing. Let it represent light returning to your space.

Space clearing does not have to be dramatic. Sometimes it is a full ritual. Other days it is two claps and a soft intention. What matters is presence. Your home responds. Your nervous system responds. The year ahead feels a little more open.

Use what you have. Follow your intuition. Let space clearing become as natural as sweeping the floor, only this time you are sweeping with intention and awareness!
